The Pretend:  Firefighter

NOTE: First appearance of Paul Dillon as Angelo

Jarod O’Leary becomes a Pittsburgh firefighter in order to uncover the truth behind the arson death of Tamara Copeland.

A firefighter attached to “the fighting 16th” company, Copeland died in a warehouse fire while trying to save Arson Investigator John Zimmerman. In order to keep their scam from being discovered, Battalion Captain Nick Harrigan knocked Copeland out during the blaze, brought Zimmerman out himself, then ordered the other firefighters to let the building burn.

When Jarod finds evidence that Zimmerman is in league with the Harrigan in an arson insurance scam, he avenges Copeland’s death by trapping Harrigan in the home he built with his ill-gotten money, then setting it on fire. Harrigan’s confession is heard by the rest of the firefighters from 16th engine company, who let his home burn to the ground.

Realizing that Jarod is picking his "cases" from newspaper accounts of tragedies and injustice, Mr. Raines brings in Angelo (Centre Psychogenic Project #0023), to help on the Jarod Project. An empath with no apparent personality of his own, Raines has him scan both printed news media and the Internet to try to anticipate which item will catch Jarod’s interest next.

Miss Parker renews a hot romance with an old flame, Michael Patrick. She later finds out that he is working for Mr. Raines, trying to catch Jarod.

Jarod discovers “Insta-Cheez” (Canned aerosol cheese).

TRIVIA BUFFS:   As Patrick admits to Miss Parker that he was hired by Raines, we clearly see something about her, that existed throughout this entire episode, that was changed as Miss Parker was "matured" by the creators.  What was it?  (She was wearing flats - they later put her in stilletto heels)

Guest Stars:   Patrick Cronin (???), Isabel Glasser (Lieutenant Nancy Gleason), Michael O'Neill (Captain Harrigan), Jon Pennell (Roy), Vladimir Skomarovsky (Mr. Borodin), Anthony Starke (Michael Patrick) and Kenneth White (???)
