The Pretend: Hitman By chance, a hitman staying in the same hotel as Jarod dies in Jarod's arms. When Jarod realises what the man does, he keeps him "on ice" in the hotel shower and assumes his identity so he can save the lives of Ben and Dorris Worth. Tug Beaulieu has put out a hit on their lives because he wants to take over their night clubs. Jarod arranges with Ben and Doris to fake their murders. Jarod, Ben and Doris set up Tug and his nephew, Donny, to think they are witnessing the hit of Doris but they are actually the targets. Jarod locks them in a car and as the exhaust surrounds them, the confess in front of a video tape that Jarod is running on the outside. He puts the tape, the body of the real hitman and all of the other evidence he has, in the trunk of the car and leaves it for the police to find with Tug and Donny. ![]()

Miss Parker and Sydney go to a twins convention in Minneapolis because of an e-mail that Sydney believes Jarod sent him, but it wasn't Jarod who sent the e-mail. While there, Sydney meets Millie and Tillie Pilcher, who give him information regarding the accident that put Jacob in a coma, leading him to believe that Mr. Raines may have been involved. Because of an e-mail that Jarod believes that Sydney sent him (but Sydney didn't), Jarod flies to New Orleans to find Sonny Hebert, a private investigator specializing in finding lost children. Jarod's mother had long ago hired Sonny to find Jarod. Herbert's former secretary gives Jarod information that helped him track Herbert to a local hospital. Supposedly, the PI had fallen asleep while smoking and is suffering from burns over 80% of his body - he remembers Jarod's mother, but is in no condition to give Jarod any useful information. Mr. Raines may also have been involved with Herbert's so-called accident. Miss Parker's attempt to quit smoking is foiled by Broots, who arranges to have a carton of cigarettes left in her Minneapolis hotel room. In the end, Jarod calls Sydney. As they talk, Angelo watches from the duct. He sent the e-mails!
