The Pretend:  Special Effects Coordinator

Jarod Lugosi works as a special effects coordinator order to find out the truth behind an accident that occurred during the filming of a Blaster Beer commercial for Super Sunday.

In the final scene of the commercial, the two "Blaster Beer dudes" drive the Blastermobile through a Blaster Beer billboard, located on a beach in Tijuana.  Stuntman Dave Dugger actually drives the car through the billboard - but something goes awry and he ends up in the hospital with serious burns.

Mickey Clausen, a long-time friend of Dugger, and the man who coordinated the stunt, thinks that he is responsible for the mishap and Dugger's family believes him to be responsible as well.  However, after watching the dailies to see for himself what went wrong, Jarod realizes that instead of the single explosion that Mickey Clausen rigged, there were two.

Jarod's assistant, Ray Slater, was Clausen's assistant before the accident.  Slater has been in the AA program for over five years, thanks to Dugger.  When Jarod realizes that Slater has started drinking again, he rightly surmises that the man is trying to deal with his feelings of guilt regarding the accident.  Jarod tricks him into telling him what really happened ... Brynne McLain, the ad agency representative, wanted a bigger "blast" than Mickey thought was safe.  Slater had previously demonstrated to her how the napalm that Mickey had taught him to make could be used to enhance explosions.  After Mickey set up the stunt, Brynne stole some of the napalm and put it on the radiator of the car.  When Ray confronted her after the accident, she threatened to say that he was involved, if he told anyone else.  Frightened that he would lose everything, he let Brynne McLain frame Mickey Clausen for the accident.

Jarod uses one of Mickey's mini-cameras to film Brynne admitting to what she did when she believes that Jarod is going to drive her through a billboard covered in napalm without any protective clothing.

Jarod sends Miss Parker an angel with a broken wing, a glass eye and a picture of Igor with "Igor knows the secret?" written on it.  Later, Miss Parker finds a full-sized version of Igor in her bed at home.   A Centre security tape is in Igor's stomach.  The tape shows Catherine Parker on SL-27, on the day before she died, with a man named Fenigor, planning to remove Jarod and a child named Timmy.  The tape stops short of showing what happened, so Miss Parker has Broots raid Raines' personal DSA archives, hoping to learn what eventually happened to Timmy and to her mother.

Catherine Parker arrives too late to help Timmy - Raines has completed his experiment on the child. When Catherine Parker expresses her horror over what he has done, Raines tells her that "Timmy is gone" and re-names the child Angelo.  Catherine protests that her husband will never allow these experiments to continue, but Raines tells her, "You don't know your husband as well as you think you do," implying that Mr. Parker knows all about what is going on down in SL-27.

Jarod telephones Miss Parker at home and tells her that he found the tape in another of her mother's safe deposit boxes.  What he doesn't tell Miss Parker is that he also found her mother's diary in the box.

Jarod learns about Frankenstein, Igor and special effects.
